Take Anything You Want

72 Project: Day Nineteen

If you plan to travel to the States, there are a few phrases that will help you get through the normal day-to-day activities, and make your stay here much more pleasurable. And remember, learning is always easier in an 80's-style aerobics class.

8 Things About Your Mom

As usual I've been prodded back into the daylight by a friend, tagged with this meme. Basic idea: I tell you 8 fascinating details about me, you are simultaneously awestruck and entertained, and then I retreat back to my cave. But first, I must ask why #1 of the circulated rules (below) is not actually a rule. OK, done. Now on with the show.

THE RULES
1. All right, here are the rules.
2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
4. People who are tagged write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

My 8 Random Things:

1. I am not a morning person. I tend to stay up fairly late, often watching the late run of The Daily Show and Colbert Report (midnight and 12:30 here in the Flyover Time Zone) in the comfort of my bed, before falling asleep. So far this bedtime reminder of the state we're in has not caused too many disturbing dreams.

2. I don't drink coffee, but I drink tea all day long. (helpful in maintaining late nights, see above.)

3. I get frequent headaches and believe I am a valued asset to the company that makes Excedrin. Those of you in the back of the room raising your hands: yes, it has been suggested that excessive caffeine (see above) may correlate here, but my empirical evidence disagrees (multi-month caffeine-free experiments only served to make me a cranky person with frequent headaches).

4. I did not have Barbie dolls as a child. My mother felt they were "too developed," and opted for Tammy dolls instead. Tammy was essentially an elongated baby-doll, with round face, chubby cheeks, and the bosom of a toddler. She also came dressed in a stunning ensemble much like the gymsuits we were made to wear in PE.

5. I survived 9 years of parochial school (Lutheran), K-8. It's all been downhill from there.

6. My first concert experience was Jefferson Airplane in Chicago's Grant Park, in August of 1968, one of the last concerts in that park for a long time. I was a month shy of 14. A week or so after that, all hell broke loose, The Chicago Seven became household words, and no large gatherings were allowed in the city, certainly none involving rock and roll and hordes of hippies.

7. I like roadtrips, and will likely hit the road later this month for a drive to a music festival in West Virginia.

8. With a couple of notable exceptions, I am probably not your mom. But you might want to check with yours and see.

Who I'm tagging with this meme:

Here's a problem. The folks I would once have tagged are, like me, neglectful bloggers, and several prime suspects have abandoned their blogs altogether. Others only blog on MySpace, where they have profiles set to 'private.' So I'll break the rules here, and rest assured that the meme will continue floating around the ethers despite my failure to propagate it.
