Which is why they call these things memes...

Not one for original ideas lately, I have decided to play along with the "mindless piddling" to be found over on StinkyLuLuSez. Your mom always looks to LuLu to tell her what to do. You should, too.

Here's the deal: you can follow the links in LuLu's post entitled "StinkyLulu's Bad Taste in Music Meme" to see other examples, or go directly to this page, scroll down to the bottom where it lists "Top 100 Songs," choose the year you escaped from high school, then copy/paste/mangle the list to reflect your once-exquisite taste in music. Basic rules: bold the titles you liked, and strike out the ones you didn't. Naturally, I feel there are many shades of grey in everything, so I must complicate the process. Titles I liked quite well are now deep crimson; those I liked but didn't luuuvv are left alone; those I didn't like are crossed out; songs I can honestly say I never knew existed are striked and faded to a paler shade of grey.

These ratings are based on how I think I felt about the songs waaay back then. But a whole lotta time has passed, and memory being fallible and all... well, take that into account.

1. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Roberta Flack
2. Alone Again (Naturally), Gilbert O'Sullivan
3. American Pie, Don McLean

it's a wonder I survived the 70s at all, with all the American Pie clogging the radiowaves/brain cells...

4. Without You, Nilsson
5. Candy Man, Sammy Davis Jr.
6. I Gotcha, Joe Tex
7. Lean On Me, Bill Withers
8. Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me, Mac Davis
9. Brand New Key, Melanie
10. Daddy Dont You Walk So Fast, Wayne Newton

24. Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress), Hollies

... oh my god ...

31. Last Night I Didn't Get To Sleep At All, 5th Dimension
32. Nights In White Satin, Moody Blues
33. Go All The Way, Raspberries

apparently I never listened too closely to these lyrics...imagine my surprise when I discovered that "baby, don't go away," was really "baby, go all the way"...eeew, the dirty old pervs...it was bad enough the way I heard it...

34. Too Late To Turn Back Now, Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose

43. Scorpio, Dennis Coffey and The Detroit Guitar Band
44. Morning Has Broken, Cat Stevens

I will confess to liking this at the time, but as one of those highly intolerant, narrow-minded folks, I have found it really hard to like Cat's music ever since he went all jihad on Salman Rushdie's ass...

45. The City Of New Orleans, Arlo Guthrie

I liked the version by Steve Goodman, who wrote the song, much better...but as Steve said, Arlo would be putting his kids through college...

Woot

Nothing wild and wonderful to report here in the land of YourMomitude, but I did see something amusing this past weekend whilst visiting in Phoenix. In a photo directory (recent issue) of a local church, one of my young'uns spotted a family with some cleverly named children. Boy and girl, Cash and Kari. Extra credit for those inspired parents.
